Foundation Repair and Plumbing

My foundation repair company told me I didn’t need any foundation repair work, but I did need to have my home's plumbing systems tested for a slab leak.
This is common, some homes that appear to need foundation repairs really need plumbing repairs. This happens when the plumbing leaks under your home and the soil becomes wet. As it becomes wet, it expands and as it expands, it causes your foundation to move. If you think this is not a problem, think again. Did you know the soil under your home can expand and exert four to five times the amount of pressure upward than your home exerts downward. Your home rests on the ground at about 400 to 500 psi (pound per square inch) and the soil can expand with as much force as 1500 to 2000 psi. That means wet and expansive soil can and will pick your home up and move it quite easily when your fresh water or sanitary sewer system is leaking under your home. Now that’s something to think about!
Please note: If you have had foundation repair work at your home, ask them about your warranty. Most foundation companies usually have a plumber perform a plumbing test on both your domestic fresh water and sanitary sewer systems after they finish foundation repairs at your home. Foundation companies usually void your warranty if that test shows a slab leak. They say that you must have the slab leak repaired before they will honor any warranty.
What are the symptoms of a sanitary sewer leak under my home?
In North Texas some of the symptoms you might experience can appear to be foundation problems such as doors and windows that won’t open and shut properly, cracks in the sheetrock of your walls and ceilings, cracked tile and or bulging flooring and cracks in the brick around your home. If your foundation repair company tells you that your home's foundation is ok that is because these symptoms are often related to a sanitary sewer leak under your home. You should keep in mind that plumbing problems and foundation problems often go hand in hand. Some other symptoms you might experience are unpleasant odors coming from plumbing drains, wet areas around your home, mold and pest problems (termites, ants, roaches, gnats and other intruders). Again, the sanitary sewer system might appear to be working fine, however these are some of the symptoms of a sanitary sewer leak under your home.

Slab Leak Locating

At Slab Leak Solutions LLC, we have located every kind of under-the-foundation plumbing leak there is. We can locate your home's slab leak also even if other plumbing companies can’t. That’s because, in the plumbing industry, slab leaks are considered a specialty service. When it comes to this type of work, not all plumbing companies are the same. Don’t make the mistake of hiring just any plumbing company. Let our specially trained techs use their years of experience and skill to locate your home's slab leak.

Slab Leak Solutions LLC uses the latest state-of-the-art technology and techniques to locate your home's slab leak in a nondestructive or minimally invasive manner. We locate all slab leaks in a logical and systematic way that assures accuracy and eliminates mistakes. We locate your home's water leak using sound amplification and line tracing equipment. If necessary, we can isolate the water leak for a possible reroute. We locate your sanitary sewer leak with an inline video camera that allows us and you, the homeowner, to see the inside of your sewer pipe. Inside the video camera is a transmitter that can be located by surface equipment. If we are unable to see your leak with the camera, we will locate the leak with a series of isolation tests that will allow us to pinpoint your leak. By using specialized equipment, training, and skill along with years of experience in locating slab leaks we can even locate hard-to-find leaks that other plumbers can’t.
What are the symptoms (or signs) of a Sanitary (sewer) slab leak?
There can be many symptoms such as constant sanitary sewer backups. In North Texas another symptom you might experience is what may appear to be foundation problems caused by a sanitary sewer leak under your home. Other symptoms you might experience are, mold, odors coming from drains, wet areas around your home and pest problems (termites, ants, roaches and other home intruders). Again, the sanitary sewer system might appear to be working fine however, these symptoms may indicate that you have a sanitary sewer leak under your home.
What is a slab leak?
A slab leak is a plumbing leak under your home's concrete foundation (or slab). One type of slab leak is a domestic (or fresh water) leak. This is the pressurized water coming into your home. This leak is a constant leak and can sometimes be detected by the sound of running water. One sign you may have a domestic fresh water leak is a higher than normal water bill. The other type of slab leak is a sanitary (or sewer) leak. This might be something you do not notice because your homes plumbing might appear to be working fine. One symptom that you may have a sanitary sewer leak is constant backups.
My leak is just a small leak, it’s not really a problem is it?
Wrong, did you know that a small leak can cause extensive damage to your home in a short period of time. If you think this is not a problem, think again. Did you know the soil under your home can expand and exert four to five times the amount of pressure upward than your home exerts downward? Your home rest on the ground at about 400 to 500 psi (pound per square inch) and the soil can expand with as much force as 1500 to 2000 psi. That means wet and expansive soil can and will pick your home up and move it quite easily when your domestic fresh water or sanitary sewer system is leaking under your home. Now that’s something to think about!  So, if your home has cracking or movement issues that wont go away give us a call. Our skilled plumbing professionals can test your homes plumbing systems to detect if your home has a leak. My water bill is high and my Kitchen floor is hot.
You could have a domestic hot water slab leak under your kitchen floor. Domestic hot water leaks under the slab are common. Domestic hot water is more corrosive to the piping in your home than domestic cold water is. You also have more expansion and contraction on domestic hot water pipes than on cold water pipes. Another issue can be if your water heater is older, the tank may have build up rust. Some of the rust can escape your water heater and deposit a small granule in the copper piping. This granule will cause electrolysis and the copper piping will develop a pin hole water leak. Inspecting and flushing your water heater regularly can save you more money than you might think.

How to check for a water leak yourself
Finding a water leak can save you money. If you don’t think water is a precious resource, just look at your water bill. You can follow these easy steps to see if you have a leak in your domestic or sprinkler system.
  1. Turn off all plumbing fixtures such as all faucets, washing machine, dishwasher, any water using appliance.
  2. Take the cover off your meter box and clean the meter face.
  3. You will see a red triangle or silver and black disc known as the low-flow indicator. Watch this indicator. If it shows any movement you may have a leak. If there is no movement you probably don’t. If there is no movement and for some reason you still believe you have a water leak, you can test the indicator by letting your hose bib or faucet run slowly then go check the indicator again to see if it moves. If the indicator still has no movement it may be broken. If this happens, you can call us and we can perform a true test on your homes water system.
